Averil Pooten Watan

Averil Pooten Watan is a mother, wife and community leader in Waltham Forest, East London. She is one of the churchwardens in St Barnabas and St James, Walthamstow. This enables her to live out her faith in service of others. She is a trustee of the Centre for Theology and Community (CTC) and co-chair of The East London Communities Organisation (TELCO). Averil is co-chair of Forest Women’s Interfaith Network (WIN), actively participating in many interfaith activities, including WIN’s annual interfaith walk. She is also a trustee of the Igorot UK charity (an indigenous Filipino grassroots organization), and is passionate about her community and ensuring Filipinos are represented in the mainstream culture. Lastly, she manages a residential care home for adults with long-term mental health conditions. Through this role, she is the borough lead for Care Providers Voice, an independent network of providers supporting providers in social care.
