Church Times review of Stir Up, O Lord

The Church Times, the world’s leading Anglican weekly newspaper, has printed a review of Kevin Carey’s commentary on the BCPStir Up, O Lord

Kevin Carey offers commentaries on all the collects, epistles, and Gospels in the BCP, combining background information with suggestions for application of what the readings have to say. His approach is generally radical and challenging, material not so much for sermons as for discussion groups or private reflection. Whether or not the reader agrees with all his opinions, he can startle us into new thinking. Did Bach’s St Matthew Passion “make the Shoah that bit more possible”? Was Luther “a pessimist with low self-esteem”? An appendix adds specific “Thoughts for Reflection” on each Sunday and holy day.

Church Times, 22nd June 2012

The full review, featuring various books about the BCP, can be read on the Church Times website (paywall) or in this week’s print edition.

Stir Up, O Lord is available from Sacristy Press for the reduced price of £9.99.
